They'll Lift You Up, The Tempestuous Miss Tunicka, Gnomes!
Hey there, my beautiful friends!
May 1st ushers in a cheerful burst of springtime joy! It marks a time when flowers bloom with abandon and the sun casts a warmer glow.
It's a day of laughter and light, where communities come together to celebrate the promise of new beginnings and shared hopes.
Whether it's dancing around a Maypole (did you know in New Westminster, British Columbia, dancing around the maypole and May Day celebrations have been held for 149 years? ) enjoying a picnic under the open sky, or simply relishing the fresh, floral-scented air, May 1st is a reminder of the simple pleasures and the renewal that each spring brings.
And now, my friends, with that joyful image in mind, sit back with a cup of tea or coffee and let’s take 5 minutes to see all the positive around us.
Today's Edition
🌸 Positive Corner
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great makes you feel that you, too, can become great.” ~ Mark Twain
What a wonderful reminder from the old curmudgeon himself, Mark Twain! This quote tells us to surround ourselves with people who uplift us, not those who weigh us down.
Let's choose to be around those who see the greatness in us and encourage us to rise even higher.
Our circle influences our ambitions, so let's make sure it's a circle of champions!
🧘 Motivation in Motion
Picture this… It's the 1971-72 season for the Kankakee Symphony Orchestra.
The orchestra, composed of approximately 70 (mostly local, mostly amateur) musicians, was in only its third performing season. It traced its roots to a chamber music group formed in 1965. In comes the first full-time (and first woman) conductor.
Soft, feminine, warm and outgoing in conversation over a cup of coffee, she becomes a roaring tiger with a baton in her hand and a stage of musicians at her command.
In Poland, as a teen, she won a fierce competition to be a student in the Warsaw Conservatory’s conducting class. Unwelcomed and ignored by the older male musicians in that class, she persevered.
She came to America and challenged the status quo to be the first full-time and first woman conductor for the Kankakee Symphony Orchestra. See the rest of her story here - The Tempestuous Miss Tunicka
